Saw my pal Casey Jones on TV at last week’s Barclays
I forgot to mention this Sunday. I was watching the end of the Barclays when I say my pal Casey Jones at the scorer’s table! As you may recall, Casey is the maker of really cool golf scoreboards and has a beautiful writing talent. He was obviously at the Barclays to draw up some good

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — At the 2009 PGA Championship, Sergio Garcia and Retief Goosen tried out the yet-to-be-released, five-piece TaylorMade Penta golf ball. Last week at the Wyndham Championship in Charlotte, Matt Bettencourt, James Driscoll, Justin Rose, Jay Williamson and Casey Wittenberg also started using the ball. Now, according to TaylorMade representatives, Y.E. Yang , the man who walked away with the Wanamaker Trophy at Hazeltine , has put the Penta into play at the Barclays Championship. Yang had previously been using the TaylorMade TP Red LDP . As we reported in early August, the Penta has been designed to optimize its performance in five key areas: with the driver, long-irons, middle irons, short irons and partial wedge shots. The ball will be available to the public starting December 1. Follow David Dusek on Twitter. (Photo by David Dusek)

Ernie Els Searching for Putter and Magic at Liberty National

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — In 2004, Ernie Els contended at all four majors, but didn't win any. That season the Big Easy ranked ninth on the PGA Tour in putting average, needing only 1.74 putts per green hit in regulation. This year, he's tied for 153rd in that category, averaging 1.801. So it was no surprise that I saw him spend an hour on the speed practice green at Liberty National Wednesday in preparation for Thursday's start of the Barclays. With the help of his caddie, Ricky Roberts, as well as an assist using a video camera, Els hit putt after putt with an Odyssey putter made especially to his specifications and preferences (below). The stainless steel design is shaped like a classic heel-toe weighted Anser. However, halfway through his practice session, Els started putting with a custom finished Odyssey White Hot XG #5 (below). Els has used this putter on several occasions this season, including at the PGA Championship two weeks ago.

FT. WORTH, Texas — For several years, Stewart Cink has used on a belly putter and been one of the most consistent putters on the PGA Tour. But this week at Colonial, Cink has switched to a traditional-length Nike prototype putter, which appears to be almost identical to the putter that Paul Casey uses .
