Augusta National Says Charity Jacket is Not Real

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif I received an e-mail this morning from Augusta National Golf Club that pointed out subtle difference in the Masters jacket signed by Phil Mickelson being auctioned for charity and the famous jackets presented to winners of the tournament. “You'll notice the jacket for auction has a replica Masters logo on the left breast. Green Jackets carry the Augusta National map/flag logo with no text ( left in photo ). The auction photo also shows an unauthentic button. Green Jackets have gold buttons with the map/flag logo (also no text).” The folks at Augusta National also likely reached out to charitybuzz.com , the company conducting the auction, to inform them of the irregularities in the jacket. The item is no longer listed among the items available on the company's Web site. The business of sports memorabilia is tricky, and it seems that this is another case of something simply being too good to be true. Sportswear comes in all shapes, styles and colors, but the green jackets worn by the members of Augusta National Golf Clubas well as Masters championsare the most coveted by golfers. Only the greatest players in the history of the game have earned one, but now, one can be yours if the you've got the cash. An online auction going on now through next Wednesday afternoon at charitybuzz.com a site that runs fund-raising auctions for charitiesfeatures a Masters jacket that has been autographed by three-time winner Phil Mickelson. According to the Web site, the money raised in the auction will go to the Music for America Project. As of Friday afternoon, the highest bid for the jacket was $1050. Among the other items available as part of the site's Dads & Grads Auction are two badges for the Monday and Tuesday sessions at the 2011 Masters (including lodging); dinner with Joe Montana at his home; and two VIP tickets to the next Victoria's Secret fashion show, including backstage passes and invites to the after party. Are any dads or recent grads actually worthy of this stuff? Related: Follow David Dusek on Twitter | Facebook

Zach is Back

Congratulations to my long time friend Zach for his victory at historic Colonial. It is so cool to have his name up on that Wall of Champions, and also cool that he is only one of eleven people to ever win both the Masters and Colonial. It is a pretty impressive list to join! (I apologize for the quality of the picture) It was obviously great to be there and witness Zach in action. When I spoke to him before the round on the putting green, I could tell he was calm and ready to go. When he hit a nerveless flop shot from 30 yards out of the rough on the first hole to about 6 feet, I knew that he would be in the mix. All week, we talked about being calm and to start allowing things to happen, especially on the greens. He has been guilty all year of trying to make putts. There has been nothing wrong with his technique; he just wants to make the Ryder Cup team so much and he also knows that he is hitting well enough to contend often. So, even at that level, guys get too results oriented and don't let the game come to them. He has received the same message from everyone on his team- Mike Bender, his swing coach, and Morris Pickens, his mental coach. As I have said before, I feel very blessed to be part of such a great team, with Damon Green, his caddy, and Chris Noss, his strength coach. We are all on the same page with our message, and no one is more important than the other. It is very refreshing. Remember, there is no try in golf. Try equals tension. There is only allow. The calmest guy is the one who usually wins on Sunday. You could see that in Zach. That man has no fear, and he absolutely wants the ball at the end of the game, so to speak. When you get under pressure, be aware of the tension and anxiety that you are carrying and let it go. Don't think about being calm, FEEL it. The flag says it best-

Tiger had an MRI on his neck and docs expect him to make a full recovery. He didn’t have a bulging disk (or d*ck as quoted by blond golf babe Win McMurry). He has an inflamed facet joint in his neck. “I want to thank everyone for their caring and concern. I now need to

On the night that Phil Mickelson won the 2010 Masters, I wrote in detail about his custom-made Odyssey blade putter . As I noted that evening, Phil's putter is not currently in Odyssey's lineup. But Odyssey recently announcement that 82 right-handed and 82 left-handed models of the Mickelson-inspired ProType 82 blade putter will be made available to the public. Beginning May 10 at 11:00 AM ET (8:00 AM PT), those interested in owning one of these limited edition putters can sign up to be eligible for purchase on a first-come basis at OdysseyGolf.com . Each of these 164 individually numbered, limited-edition putters features a green highlight on the sole, a nod to Mickelsons win at Augusta earlier this month. According to a release, the ProType 82 features a face insert that is identical to the insert in the White Ice family of putters, a tungsten weight in the rear section and a single white alignment linejust like Mickelson's. The putters will come with special headcover and a Black Series grip which is identical to the one Phil used at Augusta. Each of the putters will be numbered and sold for $500. “I'm very excited that the designers at Odyssey have produced this limited edition putter with the same design as my gamer,” Mickelson said in the release. Austie Rollinson, Principle Designer for Odyssey Golf said in the release, “Phil came to us a few years back to develop this particular model and hes obviously had great success with it on the PGA Tour. The ProType 82 Putter was developed due to the large number of requests we receive from people interested in the product that Phil uses on the games biggest stage.” Don't be surprised to see more ProType putters released from Odyssey in the future. As he prepares to play in his second event of the season, Tiger Woods has changed the shaft in his driver. During Wednesday's practice round, he had a Mitsubishi Fubuki in his Nike Victory Red Tour . At the Masters, Woods used a Graphite Design Tour AD DI . In a tasty bit of irony, the Mitsubishi Fabuki shaft is also being used in the

Swag Golf Shirts Are Great

So Im going to be spending a full day at the Tuesday practice round of the Masters last week. I have about 12.8 billion golf shirts in my wardrobe to choose from. I chose to wear my white Swag Golf bamboo charcoal golf shirt.

About Swag Golf Shirts

Swag Golf shirts are made from bamboo charcoal which is basically burnt bamboo. Bamboo is a fast growing grass and thus more eco-friendly and sustainable as a consumable.

Bamboo charcoal also has some great inherent features. It is anti-bacterial, anti fungal, anti-static and self deodorizing. I really need that last feature.

Swag says the shirt promotes the human bodys bio processes such as increased metabolism and blood circulation. Im not sure about that one, but I cant prove em wrong since I havent measured my blood circulation with and without the shirt on

Looks

Bamboo aside, the shirt simply looks awesome. Theres a hint of an argyle pattern in the body of the shirt which gives it a cool look. The logo looks nice. The cut and sizing of the shirt are very stylish.

On the course, or Augusta National as the case may be

Ive worn my Swag Golf shirt for many golf rounds already, as well as while walking the grounds at Augusta National last week. The shirt is extremely comfortable and I can tell it breaths very well. Even in the 85 degree, high moisture conditions in Georgia last week, I was cool and dry. During golf swings there are no tugs or tight areas. No swing restriction or compromises in comfort.

Conclusion

Swag Golf shirts are stylish, comfortable, environmentally friendly and they just plain look great. I wish my pals at Swag Golf great success in their business.

Callaway
Phil Mickelson cracked the crown of his Callaway FT-9 Tour Authentic driver at the Shell Houston Open. (A nearly identical driver, the FT Tour, is now available to the public.) Like a patient in critical need of an organ transplant, the club was flown to San Diego on Easter Sunday, where it was met at the airport by the head of Callaway’s R&D team, Dr. Alan Hocknell.

According to Callaway, the company, “performed an ‘unprecedented repair,’ removing the body from the clubface while never taking off the shaft in order to ensure that the loft and lie remained secure.”

Hocknell said, We decided to remove the carbon composite body from the face, and weve never done that before, so everyone was a bit nervous. But through a lot of teamwork, we had a new body and weights installed by 1:30 p.m. on Monday.”

Meanwhile, back in Augusta, Mickelson texted Hocknell: “How bad is it, Doc? Is she gonna make it?”

Needless to say, the patient made a full recovery, was flown back cross-country, and helped Mickelson win his third green jacket. For the week, Phil hit 60% of the fairways and averaged 297 yards per drive.

TaylorMade
Y.E. Yang, winner of the 2009 PGA Championship at Hazeltine, pulled his Odyssey White Hot 2-Ball putter out of his bag before the start of the Masters and used a TaylorMade Monza Spider Vicino (right) during the championship. Yang took 115 putts at Augusta and averaged an impressive 1.6 putts per green in regulation.

Mike Weir, Henrik Stenson and John Rollins all put new TaylorMade Burner SuperFast drivers in the bag for the first time at the Masters. Sergio Garcia became the first player to put TaylorMade’s yet-to-be-released R9 SuperDeep driver into play. He hit 68% of the fairways for the week and averaged 285 yards per drive.

Titleist
Adam Scott, whose tie for 18th marks his best performance at Augusta since 2002, had been playing a Titleist 909 D2 driver this season. But in order to get more roll on the firm fairways at Augusta National, the Australian decided to play a lower-flying 909 D3 driver instead.

Matteo Manassero, who at age 16 was the youngest player to ever compete in a Masters, also finished as the tournament’s low amateur with a final score of four over par. Manassero, who has a bag filled with Titleist clubs, swapped out his AP2 3-iron in favor of a higher-flying hybrid club, a Titleist 909H (21), so he could stop the ball more quickly on Augusta’s firm greens. The young Italian star plans on turning professional in less than three weeks, so look for him to become a Titleist staff player soon
